Setting up SirsiDynix eResource Central

SirsiDynix eResource Central is SirsiDynix's solution for providing ebooks and other eresources to libraries. eResource Central is designed to integrate seamlessly with Portfolio, giving your patrons the ability to access all of your library's resources through one search. Patrons can check out available eresources immediately without leaving Portfolio.

When patrons place a hold on an Overdrive item, Portfolio prompts them for an email address. When possible, Portfolio populates the field with the email address from the patron's record in the ILS (which is used to log in to the OverDrive account). The patron can change the email address or leave it as it is and continue to check out and download the item.

In addition, Portfolio lets patrons manage eresources in these ways:

View checked out resources in the Checkouts tab of My Account.
Return checked out eresources before the due date.
Allow eresources to be returned automatically on the due date.
Places holds on eresources.
View held eresources in the Holds tab of My Account.
Suspend the hold on an eresource item.
Cancel the hold on an eresource item.

eResource Central is a search source for Enterprise and, when activated, uses specialized sources, targets, and fields in Portfolio that are needed for searching for and linking to electronic items. These sources are administered through the eResource Central administration, which is separate from Portfolio. When you subscribe to eResource Central, it creates sources and their associated targets, and then associates them with profiles you have created in Portfolio. You cannot edit these sources. You can only change the name of the targets. You cannot remove or add an eResource Central target in a profile, but you can expose it to or hide it from users.

To set up SirsiDynix eResource Central

1 Contact your SirsiDynix representative to have eResource Central activated for your library.

The SirsiDynix team will guide you through the steps of starting eResource Central. You will be given access to the BLUEcloud Administration console where you can manage your eresource collection. When that is complete, you can complete the Portfolio integration.

2 In the Portfolio Admin console, choose Profiles > Edit Profile for the profile in which you want to make the eresources available.
3 From the Associated Institutions list, choose your institution as defined in the BLUEcloud Admin console.
4 Choose OK.
5 Add the ERC targets to the search result and detail displays as needed.

When patrons place holds on OverDrive titles, they will be prompted for their email address. Portfolio inserts the patron's email address, which it gets from the ILS. However, if SirsiDynix Symphony is not set up correctly, Portfolio will not be able to obtain the email address. To set up Symphony, you will need to add the EMAIL entry ID to the Full Display group in the appropriate User Address wizard (typically User Address 1).
